St. Lucia - Day 1

The second day of our trip was MUCH better than the first. The previous day contained just a little too much time on airplanes and in airports for our liking!

We caught a morning flight from Miami to St. Lucia and arrived mid-afternoon. While at the Miami airport, we did have a small scare when I realized that my passport still had my maiden name on it and therefore did not match my ticket, etc. After repeated phone calls conversations with immigration, etc., in a panic, I got my friend Meredith to break into my house, get my marriage certificate, and email it to the resort in St. Lucia in case I got stopped by immigration there. However, as it turns out, your immigration papers don’t have to match your airline ticket. I just wrote my maiden name on my immigration papers and there was no problem. The immigration officer at St. Lucia was more excited about the fact that we were returning tourists to St. Lucia and welcomed us back!

We were staying at Stonefield Estate villas in St. Lucia – this is the same place we stayed during the first half of our honeymoon. Albert, a driver from Stonefield, was there to pick us up. He was the same driver we had had 3 years ago! When we arrived, we were delighted to be placed in a villa that was almost exactly the same as the villa we had on our honeymoon. It had a beautiful front-row view of the Petit Piton and we had an outdoor shower, hammock, and our own private plunge pool.  We were also excited to find a few Piton beers (a delicious local beer named after St. Lucia’s famous Piton) in our fridge. We enjoyed those and sat by our own private plunge pool that afternoon. As you can see, it didn’t take Paul very long to relax! Once we finally started relaxing we realized it had been A LONG time since either one of us really sat down and relaxed – with no agenda and nothing to do.

That night we had dinner at the Mango tree, which is the restaurant at Stonefield. After dinner, it was back to our villa for some card-playing by the light of our kerosene lamp. Then it was off to sleep in our mosquito-net covered bed.
