Not so-free Free Day in NYC

Sunday was our "free" day in NYC. Not free as in no money spent, because believe me, we spent some serious money, but free as in no plans.

That morning we strolled through Central Park and ate brunch at the Central Park Boathouse. Then Paul took a nap (perhaps he enjoyed the neighborhood tavern just a bit too much) and a long jog through the park while I attempted to shop all over mid-town. Unfortunately, shopping just wasn't in the cards for me or I just got overwhelmed because I didn't buy a thing! Yes, I am in disbelief myself - how can you go to NYC and not buy a thing?!!
That afternoon, we made our way over to the Meat Packing district which is really the hip area now. We walked through a a new park - High Line Park - that a non-profit group built over an old elevated railroad that carried meat and other goods into the city. Below are some pictures of us at the park.

It was an old elevated railway that carried meat and other goods into mid-town. It was reclaimed by a non-profit corporation and turned into an elevated park.

Then we had a delightful dinner with a WONDERFUL waiter at this Italian restaurant called Vento Trattoria. We had yummy olives and cheese to start and both had great entrees. We then got a private tour of the nightclub that was underneath the restaurant (the "675"). It was closed because it was Sunday but it was still neat to see because it looked like a dungeon with all of these small rooms.

We then made our way to possibly the coolest restaurant/bar I have been to in years. It is called Ajna Bar but everyone calls it the Buddha Bar. The walls are covered with bamboo and there are jellyfish in fish tanks behind one of the bars. We each had a delicious cocktail there before making our way back to Mid-Town. Below is a shot of Paul making friends with a mummy.
